Heirloom Perennial Plants

Heirloom flowers are open-pollinated and usually passed down from generation to generation or sustained by a community for many years. Heirloom plants grow “true to seed” or “true to type,” meaning the offspring will look like the parent plant. This means it’s possible to have many of the same plant without purchasing more. You can either collect and start the seeds yourself, or let the plant reproduce naturally by self-sowing. Popular heirloom plants include Aquilegia ‘Black Barlow’ and many natives. These tried-and-true heirloom perennials will bring a sense of history to your garden.
