Description

Verbena bonariensis, also known as Brazilian Vervain, is an upright plant that bears small clusters of lavender flowers on tall airy stems. The rapidly growing clumps have coarse, lance-shaped basal foliage, but bloom stems are mostly leafless. Verbena bonariensis makes a good "see through" plant that can be used near the front of the border. It is long-blooming, from early summer to frost, and a prolific self-sower. It is a favorite of butterflies, particularly Skippers.

This perennial is native to South America and is used as an annual in much of the United States, but is usually perennial in zone 7 and above.

Verbena bonariensis prefers full sun and average to moist, well-drained soil. It is very heat tolerant and accepts poor soil. The foliage is prone to powdery mildew. If foliage gets ugly, cut the plant almost to the base and it will produce fresh foliage and blooms. Deadheading the plant will reduce or eliminate self-sowing.

Our boxes come in four sizes: 1-count, 3-count, 6-count, and 12-count.

Our nursery is located in Virginia, and it can sometimes be costly to ship to the western US. Ground shipping is too slow cross-country for the plants to arrive safely, so our options are limited to faster shipping methods. We appreciate your understanding!

We ship via UPS or USPS (the Post Office), and their ship rates are automatically generated through our site. We do not profit on shipping costs. We are working with these providers to get our customers the best rates possible.

All ship times are subject to change if extreme weather conditions are present here at the nursery or at the shipping destination.

Please note: Depending on the time of year, the foliage of the plants may be trimmed to fit into our shipping boxes. This could delay the flowering of the plant, but many perennials actually benefit from being cut back.

We are currently not able to ship to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and outside of the US.
